‘Food With a Story’ is a South African website developed by Cape Town’s Carlin and Deni Archer, both of whom are geared towards promoting ethical foods and produce.

In February 2012, the duo journeyed from Cape Town across South Africa and for three months chronicled all of the interesting, ethical and artisanal foods that they discovered along the way. Gradually, each story is being written up and published on the website to share with all those who would like to explore remarkable foods within their area.

Carlin and Deni are hoping that by getting to know local products, farmers and the backgrounds involved in the manufacturing and growth of certain foods, they will encourage others to make well-informed choices about the produce that they purchase.

A recent story that details their foodie voyage through Johannesburg describes organic food markets, a gourmet cheese shop, an olive farm and other appealing delights.

Food With a Story’s ‘Find Interesting Food’ page lists everything from Buffalo farms that supply milk for buffalo mozzarella to gourmet mushrooms and where to find them.

Live or planning to holiday in South Africa? It may be very worthwhile to follow Carlin and Deni’s salient food trail, or perhaps craft your own from their extensive listings.

If you’ve stumbled across some interesting, ethical and artisanal South African foods yourself you can join in by suggesting content for the listings.
